Bernhard Kern was born in Hartberg, Austria, in October 1981. He grew up in a small village, called Grafendorf. Although his parents had never had any special musical talents or even any special interest in music Bernhard, however, was soon attracted by music, which was shown by the varieties of instruments he was trying to play during his childhood. After first experiments he finally started playing drums at the age of 8. He took lessons in classical drums and percussion with Franz Gruber. Two years later he joined the local marching band.

In grammar school he met Fritz Rappold, who had studied at P.I.T. drum department in Los Angeles. He was the person who aroused Bernhard's interest in playing the drum-set. Soon after that Bernhard attended the Popular Music School and received a comprehensive education in modern drumming. In addition, he took lessons with Toss Panos (USA) and Efrain Toro (USA).

His skills and interests were growing and soon he had his first experiences with the school-band "Jam Desaster". After a few successful years the band split and Bernhard met Peter Taucher, a well known guitarist in the local area, with whom he founded the Rock-band "BONETONE". Many other bands and projects with Peter Taucher followed, such as "Sax & Others" (Jazz), "Beat Jazz Brew" (Fusion) or "Anna in Bloom" (Jazz-Pop). Since that time Bernhard has been working with musicians from almost every musical style - Rock, Pop, Jazz, Latin, Fusion and even Classical music. He has played live-gigs as well as at TV-shows in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and China.

After graduating from grammar school Bernhard studied at the Jazz-department of the University of Arts and Music in Graz for two years. He was taught by Alex Deutsch, Günter Meinhart, Erich Bachträgl, to name just a few.

From 2002 - 2004 he taught at Studio Percussion School in Graz, and since 2002 he has been teaching drums and percussion at the college of music in Eggersdorf/Graz.
